Hey there! you have caught me touching on band descriptors every now and then. This time, Id like to take a few seconds take a longer harder look at band descriptors. Id like to tell you a little bit about vocabulary. I'm going to highlight the pivotal role that vocab can possibly play in boosting your overall IELTS speaking score. Well, speaking of vocabulary, the word which often comes up is the range. You can use a wide range of words, a broad range of words while some students might suffice to use a shorter, narrower range of words. OK, let me give you a couple of for-examples. That's hopefully going to lock down the meaning for you guys. Imagine what we are focusing on is the economy, right? Well, for some reason you might want to throw that in and then you might say, our economy is bad, which is not bad, though. Well on a different note, you might decide to make it sound a little bit more sophisticated, using a wider range of words that you might simply say, flagging economy. So, for instance you might say, we need to work out a way or figure out a way to boost our flagging economy. You know Iran is almost about to plunge into recession. we are in the midst of some global economic recession. So, which one sounds like I am flaunting a wider more extensive range of words? Definitely the second one. That's how examiners decide on the range. So, the wider new range, the better your score. To ensure a decent score, I suggest you work on the range.
